SaltSignal is operated by Stephen Hill, sole trader, ABN 75 235 187 242. These terms apply to the SaltSignal app and this website. "We", "us" and "our" mean Stephen Hill trading as SaltSignal. By using SaltSignal you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

1. What SaltSignal is

SaltSignal is a fishing companion: a log for trips and catches, tackle inventory, boat maintenance and safety records you enter, maps and marks, a trip planner and weather. It is not a navigation aid, a marine chart, a source of fishing rules or a compliance tool.

2. Free Tier and Premium Tier

The Free Tier works without an account. Premium Tier is an optional subscription that adds an account, sync, station weather and an assistant, as described on our Pricing page.

3. Subscriptions and billing

• Premium Tier costs AUD $7.99 per month or AUD $59.99 per year. Prices may change; we'll give notice through the app or store before a change applies to you.
• Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) under their terms, and renew automatically until cancelled.
• You can cancel any time in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Deleting the app doesn't cancel a subscription.
• Refund requests are handled by Apple or Google under their refund policies.
• We don't offer a free trial or introductory offer.

4. Australian Consumer Law

Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other law that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where the law lets us limit our liability for a failure to meet a consumer guarantee, our liability is limited to supplying the services again or paying the cost of having them supplied again.

5. Safety and no legal advice

• SaltSignal does not give legal advice. It does not tell you fishing rules, bag or size limits, closures, boat registration or required safety equipment. You are responsible for checking and following the laws that apply to you.
• Maintenance and safety screens show dates and notes you enter. Labels such as "Overdue" or "Due soon" come only from those dates. They are not a statement that a boat or its equipment is legal, safe or seaworthy.
• Weather, tide and map information comes from third parties and may be wrong, late or unavailable, especially offshore or without signal. Don't rely on SaltSignal for navigation or safety decisions. Use official forecasts and proper marine equipment, and use your own judgement.
• Species names in the app are labels you choose, not identification.

6. The assistant

The assistant answers questions from your own log on your phone. Its answers are for general information only and may be incomplete or wrong. It doesn't give advice on rules, limits, closures, boat safety, maintenance, costs, boat documents, manufacturer claims, species identification or exact spots. Check conditions, rules and limits yourself with the relevant authority.

7. Your content

Your log, notes and photos remain yours. You give us only the rights we need to store, sync and restore them for you when you use Premium Tier sync. We don't publish your content and there is no in-app sharing.

8. Acceptable use

Don't misuse SaltSignal, interfere with its services or providers, try to get around usage limits, or reverse engineer it except where the law allows.

9. Intellectual property

The SaltSignal name, logo, app and website belong to us. Third-party data (such as weather) belongs to its providers.

10. Liability

Subject to section 4, and to the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, arising from your use of SaltSignal. Please keep your own exports as a backup.

11. Changes, suspension and ending

You can stop using SaltSignal at any time. We may update the app, change features or stop offering it. If we make a change that significantly affects Premium Tier, we'll tell you in advance where we reasonably can. Data on your phone stays on your phone. We may update these terms and will tell you about significant changes in the app.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland.
